Dance Instruction
Michelle Richter has been immersed in the world of dance for most of her life, with a foundation in ballet and modern dance that continues to shape her teaching approach. She emphasizes strong technique blended with creative movement, drawing on a rich and varied background that includes African-Caribbean, jazz, contact improvisation, salsa, tango, and multiple ballroom styles.
A passionate performer and choreographer, Michelle has spent the past two decades primarily focused on lindy hop and blues dancing, where she brings a thoughtful, grounded approach to the art of partner dance. Her instruction centers on connection, safe body mechanics, adaptive movement strategies, and authentic self-expression.
Michelle holds a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy and is also a certified massage therapist, giving her a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology that uniquely informs her dance teaching. This blend of movement science and artistic expression allows her to create an inclusive, body-aware, and inspiring learning environment for dancers of all levels.
Michelle teaches group and private lessons (including wedding dances) locally in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has taught at national events and workshops across the U.S. and holds past blues dancing championship titles. In addition to teaching, she also performs at community and private events.
